Football

The football community at Churchie is a vibrant, warm and enthusiastic group of boys, staff and parents. Prep Football Clinics are held for boys from Reception to Year 6. The GPS Football competition is held in Term 2 for boys in Years 5 to 12 of all levels of ability.

The Football Support Group is a group of volunteer parents who assist the director in the smooth running of several events in the calendar and building a sense of community and resources for the programme.

Churchie maintains football facilities onsite. There are six full-size fields and up to four modified fields for Years 5 and 6.

All training occurs onsite before and after school.

We access expert professionals in several fields to support the players’ development. Our football coaching curriculum and development model gives all players the opportunity to develop their technical and tactical skills, as well as their love for the game.

Churchie maintains a strong relationship with Brisbane Roar FC and Football Queensland.

Football was introduced into Churchie in 1972, with four teams entered into the Junior Brisbane Soccer Association competition. Football has grown in popularity, and in 1991 it became a GPS sport.

There are several Old Boys who have played for Australia at senior international levels, including Jonathan McKain, Nathan Coe, Tony Brennan and Steve Hogg, as well as several players who have gone on to play for national youth teams and professional football.

Churchie won the Queensland Independent Schools Cup in 2014 and the GPS Premiership in 2019.
