Daniel O'Connor was appointed to the School Council in 2009 as the nominee of the Old Boys' Association. He attended Churchie between 1971 and 1978. Dan was appointed Chairman of School Council in 2013 and is the nominee of the Anglican Schools Commission.
Dan is the Vice President of the Industrial Court of Queensland. Dan was called to the Queensland, New South Wales, and Victorian Bars and the High Court of Australia in 1990. Between 1994 and 2012, he was Chief Executive of the Bar Association of Queensland and Secretary of the Australian Bar Association. Until his appointment to the Court, he was the secretary of the International Council of Advocates and Barristers and Honorary Secretary of the Forum for Barristers and Advocates. Dan is a graduate of both the University of Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology and holds degrees in Education and Law.
Since 2000, he has been a member of the Council of the Royal National Association and is currently the Senior Vice President. Dan has been involved in a number of other charitable and not-for-profit organisations, in particular, the Queensland Public Interest Law Clearing House (LawRight), a Trustee of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, Chairman of the Residential Committee of the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal and a Trustee of the Edinburgh Declaration Trust, a body that works to protect the rule of law in jurisdictions where this is seen to be under threat.
In the 2019 Queen's Birthday Honours List, Dan was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the law and to the community.
Dan’s leisure pursuits include thoroughbred horse racing, travel and the arts.
