Year 12 Film, TV and New Media student Austin Macfarlane won the best senior secondary fiction and documentary categories at the 2019 ATOM Awards, which were announced at the Student Awards Presentation on Wednesday 13 November.
Austin’s curriculum-produced short film, Mates, won best senior secondary fiction, and he took out the best senior secondary documentary with Technology Revolution.
Owen Douglas (Year 10) was selected as finalist in the Best Middle School (Years 7–10) Film Production for his film A Forgotten Place.
The ATOM Awards celebrate the best of Australian and New Zealand screen content from the education sector and media industries. This year there were thirty-four diverse award categories spanning film, television, educational resources, and new media including web series, apps and games.
Update: Austin was also awarded Best Overall Filmmaker at the 2019 Bond University Film and Television Awards (BUFTA) taking home a full scholarship to study film and television at Bond University.
