Churchie was represented by three teams at this year’s Queensland Schools Chess Championship held last weekend in Brisbane. This is the first time we have had representation from so many teams who performed well above expectation on the broadest platform available to Queensland school-based chess players.
This year’s tournament was the strongest to date, which saw our teams compete with 22 teams from around the state. Our results were excellent, with the premier team winning the state finals and our second team attaining fourth place. The Premier team will now represent Churchie at the Australian Nationals Schools Chess Competition in Adelaide on the first weekend in December.
The Junior team from Churchie's Prep School chess programme also performed exceedingly well with an honourable 14th out of 44 teams.
