Congratulations to Will Shackel, Addison Edmonds, Caelan Smith and Bill McCart, who were the overall state champions of the online Queensland Middle School Ethics Olympiad.
The boys joined 27 teams from schools across the state, including a second Churchie team. The Years 8 and 9 students were invited to discuss the ethical implications of eight different case studies. These included the ethical considerations of forced quarantine, the uses of emotional support animals, the morality of ‘opting out’ of news coverage and the issue of no-platforming on university campuses. The teams’ responses were evaluated by philosophy teachers and professionals from across Australia.
Will, Addison, Caelan and Bill have been invited to contest the Australian finals in 2021.
