On Tuesday 30 January at St John’s Cathedral, Churchie’s community joined together in prayer to commemorate Churchie’s founding Headmaster, Canon Morris, and to anoint and commission our 2018 school leaders.
This ritual of Founder’s Day was established in 1987, the seventy-fifth anniversary of Churchie, to recognise the tremendous service of Canon Morris. The evening also represents a fundamental part of Churchie’s culture, where we recognise the importance of spiritual awareness in emphasising to our boys the value of an inclusive community, where our leaders serve faithfully.
We were welcomed by Dean of Brisbane the Very Reverend Dr Peter Catt and were blessed to have the Right Reverend Cameron Venables, Bishop of the Western Region, who anointed and commissioned the Headmaster, the School Council and our 2018 prefects and house captains. Bishop Venables’s reflective address encouraged our young men to ‘give of your best, and know of your best’ while pursuing their passions. This is timely advice as our students begin a new year, with aspirations that will see them set the bar high and continue Churchie’s legacy of living the four tenets humbly through their actions.
