GPS Premierships

Posted on 15 September 2020

Churchie has concluded a fantastic term of sport by winning both the Basketball and Chess GPS Premierships.

Following a shared 2019 GPS basketball premiership with Gregory Terrace, the 2020 Churchie First V secured the back end of their back-to-back GPS Premierships with a win over Toowoomba Grammar School, 94 to 64, on Saturday. This success is the result of the dedication, commitment and hard work contributed by all involved in Churchie Basketball, both on and off the court. Churchie's basketball season culminated with impressive accomplishments across all age groups, with over 150 wins, less than 40 losses and almost every team finishing in the top three of their competition.

In chess, Churchie has had its best season to date, with all teams finishing the season with a perfect score of no losses against Toowoomba Grammar School last Friday. The Premier team secured the 2020 GPS premiership with 16/16 points, making them the current GPS, state and national school open chess champions.  These achievements are reflected throughout chess programme, with Churchie winning the top three divisions and coming second or third in the remaining competitive divisions.

Congratulations to all students, staff and parents involved in these sports.
