Year 7 students Finn Duncombe and Will Shackel finished first and second, respectively, at the state final of the UN Youth Voice public speaking competition in the Junior Division. They contested the final at Parliament House on Sunday 10 November. Both students had to present a solution to a problem in Australian society and answer probing questions on their solution. Finn, who finished first overall, proposed a solution for homelessness by repurposing decommissioned cruise ships and Will, who finished runner-up, proposed whistleblower protection as a mechanism for preventing corporate corruption. It was an outstanding achievement from both boys, who will travel to Adelaide for the national finals in 2020.
