Governance

Churchie is a Diocesan-owned school which is established under the School’s Regulation Canon. As such, the governing body is Diocesan Council. It is from this relationship that the School takes its corporate status.

Diocesan Council delegates certain governance functions to the School Council via the School’s Charter. In circumstances where the directors of the governing body must be provided with a report about sexual abuse or likely sexual abuse the Diocesan Council has, pursuant to Section 366B of the Education (General Provisions) Act, delegated that role to Ms Sherril Butterworth, Executive Director, Anglican Schools Commission.

The Council comprises a Chairman, Deputy Chairman, several Members, the Headmaster and Secretary, with School Council sub-committees for:

  • Curriculum, Culture and Communications (CCC)
  • Oaklands Child Care and Kindergarten Management Committee

Chairman

Hon Paul de Jersey AC CVO KC

BA, LLB (Hons), Hon LLD (Qld), Hon DUniv (USQ),
Hon DUniv (Griffith)

The Honourable Paul de Jersey AC CVO KC attended Churchie 1962 to 1965. He was a member of the School Council 1990 to 1997. He was Chancellor of the Anglican Diocese of Brisbane 1991 to 2014 and is now Chancellor Emeritus. He is also now President of the Episcopal Standards Board of the National Church.

Professionally Paul was admitted to the Bar in 1971, appointed QC in 1981, and then as Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1985. He served as 17th Chief Justice of Queensland 1998 to 2014, then as 26th Governor of Queensland until November 2021.

He has been a Companion of the Order of Australia since 2000 and a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order since 2021. He holds Honorary Doctorates from UQ, USQ and Griffith University. He graduated in Arts and Laws (with honours) from UQ in 1971.

Paul married Kaye in 1971 and they have three children (David being an Old Boy of the School) and three grandchildren.

Deputy Chairman

Constantine G Castrisos OAM

LLB

Constantine Castrisos was appointed to the School Council in late 2017 and is an Old Boy of the School, having attended Churchie from 1972 to 1977. Con is the Old Boys’ Association (OBA) nominee to School Council and has been a member of the OBA Committee since 2008. He served as President of the Association from 2011 to 2016.
 
Con grew up in Tully, North Queensland and moved to Brisbane during his primary school years. Upon completion of his secondary schooling, Con attended Queensland Institute of Technology (now QUT) where he completed a Diploma of Business Services followed by a Bachelor of Laws. In 1986, Con became a partner with the legal firm H Drakos and Company for which he continues to work. 
 
Con has developed interests and owned businesses associated with the restaurant and catering industries and his expertise has enabled him to act as a key stakeholder across different associations supporting the industry. Con was also elected to the National Board of the Restaurant and Catering Association in 2000 and was National President from 2002 to 2009 and again from 2019 to 2021. He currently sits on the National Board as immediate Past President. He also chaired the Industry Action Agenda from 2005 to 2008.

Christopher Blue

LLB

Chris attended Churchie from 1976 to 1983. After completing his Bachelor of Laws degree, he joined TW Biggs & Biggs as an articled clerk and then worked as a judges associate to the future Governor of Queensland, Paul de Jersey AC. Chris has been with international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills for over 20 years, with the last 15 years as a partner in the real estate team. Chris has worked on significant urban development and regeneration projects such the Roma Street Parkland, Riparian Plaza, Boggo Road Urban Village, Queens Wharf and the Brisbane Showgrounds redevelopment.

Prof Annemaree Carroll

Annemaree Carroll is Professor in the School of Education at The University of Queensland and Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of the Humanities and Social Sciences. She is a Chief Investigator and Co-ordinator of Translational Outcomes within the Australian Research Council Special Research Initiative, Science of Learning Research Centre.

Annemaree is a registered psychologist and teacher. Her research activities focus on understanding the impact of emotions, attention, and behaviour on learning throughout child and adolescent development, developing innovative self-regulatory interventions for children and youth to bring about positive change in their lives, and implementing strategies that can be translated into educational outcomes.

Annemaree has been Chief Investigator on several federally funded grants from which the innovative KooLKIDS and Mindfields suite of programmes were developed. Her partnerships with the Queensland Department of Education and Brisbane Catholic Education have been particularly beneficial in establishing applied research that will make a difference in the lives of teachers and students.

Dr Nadine Garraway

MBBS, FRACGP, GradDipTh

Nadine is a General Practitioner of nearly 30 years standing. She grew up at Noosa and attended Somerville House as a boarder. She resided at Women’s College for the first few years of her university life and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Queensland in 1989.

After working in western Queensland and England, Nadine commenced General Practice training and achieved her fellowship in 1996. She has worked in General Practice in every state of Australia, especially in rural and remote parts of the country. 

Currently, Nadine works at Market Street Medical Practice in the city and with Breastscreen Queensland.

Nadine is a parishioner at St Paul’s Anglican Church, East Brisbane and obtained a Graduate Diploma in Theology in 2014. She has been a Liturgical Assistant for over ten years, is on Parish Council, Strugglers group leader, Synod representative and attended General Synod in 2022 as a Diocesan Lay representative. In addition, she was a lay representative on the Archbishop Election Committee in 2023. She does enjoy producing homemade offerings for St Paul’s election day stalls.

Nadine is married to her husband Peter and has two children. She has had a long association with Churchie with her brother and nephews having attended the School.

David Kelly

BCom, ICAA, FINSIA, GAICD

David joined the School Council in 2022. He attended Churchie from 1987 to 1994, commencing in Year 5. In his final year, he was appointed Vice-Captain of School and Captain of Casey House.

David graduated from The University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1998. He is a graduate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAA) and holds a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment with the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). He is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

He commenced his career within the Assurance and Advisory Services division of Deloitte Brisbane, and focused primarily on the domestic and international metals and mining industry.

Throughout his career, David has continued his interest within the resources sector and has held various senior commercial roles across a broad range of responsibilities including strategy, commercial negotiations, market analysis and risk.

David has substantial international board and committee experience, both for private and publicly listed companies based in Australia, Canada, Philippines, Colombia and Singapore.

David and his wife Emma have four children. Their three sons currently attend Churchie.

Anna McCartney

BA, MBA, MAICD

After completing her schooling at St Margaret’s, Anna obtained a BA from UQ and an MBA from QUT. She has worked in the general management of several professional services firms. She is currently director of a risk management consultancy business and provides management advisory services to a large occupational medical company. Anna has been a volunteer on executive management committees of early education institutions including C&K, Gowrie and Tugulawa Early Education at Bulimba. Anna joined the Churchie community as a parent in 2012, with 4 sons currently at the school. She most recently served as President of the Prep Support Group.

Michael C Williams

BCom, CA, Dip FP

Michael is originally from central west Queensland, near Longreach, and attended Churchie as a boarder from 1974 to 1978. His two older brothers also attended the School, as boarders, during the years 1970 to 1976.

Michael then completed a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Queensland and pursued a career in the accounting industry. He completed his professional year with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and became a Chartered Accountant (CA) in August 1989.

Michael has been a director of a second-tier chartered accounting practice based in Brisbane for more than 30 years, providing services to small and medium-size businesses throughout Queensland, with an emphasis on rural and regional Queensland.

Michael is married with two children. His son attended Churchie from 2006 to 2011, and his daughter attended Brisbane Girls Grammar School. He was on the School’s Cricket Support Group committee for a number of years, with his son being very involved with school sport, in particular cricket.

Headmaster

Dr Alan R Campbell

EdD (UNE), MEdAdmin, GradCertTheol, BA, DipT, AssocDipOE,
FACEL(Q), GAICD

Dr Alan Campbell was appointed eighth Headmaster of Anglican Church Grammar School (Churchie) from 1 January 2014 and believes that education should inspire young people to use their knowledge, talents and gifts to enthusiastically lead and serve others in local, national and global communities.

Beyond his role as Headmaster of Churchie, he is a Director on the Board of Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ), the peak state body for the independent schools sector in Queensland, and is a Director of the College Council of St John’s College, a residential, coeducational college, within The University of Queensland.

Following the completion of a Diploma in Teaching and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Queensland University of Technology and The University of Queensland respectively, Alan began teaching with majors in English Literature and Geographical Science embracing the ideals of providing a broad, liberal education.

A deep interest in lifelong learning, human motivation and performance, and teacher and school development, led him to complete postgraduate study in Masters and Doctoral programmes. High-quality teaching programmes and vibrant, engaging curriculum development have been enthusiastically pursued throughout Alan’s career.

Alan holds memberships in the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO), the Headmasters’ Conference (HMC) and the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), the latter of which he is a graduate.

Alan retains a love of literature, music and sport, and an enthusiastic involvement in recreational and charity cycling.

Secretary

Elizabeth G Stannard

BEcon Qld, MAICD

Elizabeth Stannard joined Churchie as the Director of Business and Finance in 2008 and is responsible for the business operations of the School including finance, facilities and grounds, IT, major projects, contract management and operations. She is the Secretary to the School Council as well as Company Secretary for Churchie Foundation Limited and ACGS Nominees Pty Limited.

Elizabeth is a graduate of The University of Queensland and has an extensive background in banking and finance, particularly with the Commonwealth Bank. This financial background, combined with recent experience in the education sector as a commercial manager, has equipped her well for her current role.

Elizabeth has previously served on a number of boards including one of the largest private superannuation funds in Australia, Moreton Bay College (including five years as chairman) and Moreton Bay College Foundation (two years as chairman).

Elizabeth is a member of the Finance, Facilities and Funding Committee, the Staff Superannuation Policy Committee and the Investment Advisory Committee. She is responsible for the operations of Oaklands Child Care and Kindergarten and is a member of the Oaklands Management Committee.

Her leisure interests include golf, AFL and travel.
