Developing curious, collaborative and confident learners
Churchie’s Years 7 to 10 curriculum supports boys to develop the skills, passions and confidence they need to succeed in their learning throughout high school and beyond.
In Years 7 to 10, students undertake the Australian Curriculum within a unique Churchie context that aims to enrich each subject area and nurture genuine interest and capability in all students.
Our rigorous academic programme supports students as they become more autonomous in their learning. Students are encouraged to be complex thinkers, responsive creators, active investigators, effective communicators and active participants in a globally connected learning environment.
Our academic programme sits alongside a broader approach to supporting every student, with a deeply embedded pastoral learning curriculum and a study skills programme built into the weekly timetable.
As part of Churchie’s commitment to a broad, liberal education, students undertake a wide array of subjects as outlined below.
Years 7 to 9 curriculum
Core subjects Years 7 to 9:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities

- Modern Languages: Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish or French

In Year 7 and Year 8, each student also participates in a semester unit of Design Technology, Visual and Media Arts, Music and Drama. In Year 9, these creative subjects become an elective, along with Geography, Engineering, Advanced Science, Digital Solutions, FTV (Film, Television and New Media), and Philosophy and Critical Reasoning. Each student chooses four of these electives to gain broad exposure to a varied curriculum at this developmental age.
Each learning area incorporates the cross-curricular priorities of literacy, numeracy and life skills. Wherever possible, information technology is interwoven into the formal academic programme. A strong relationship with the Centenary Library where a research and literacy programme equips students with essential skills for success in every subject.
