Churchie is focused on providing its students with a high-quality schoolboy rugby programme. As a member of the Greater Public Schools (GPS), boys have the opportunity to compete in one of the strongest rugby competitions in the country. The GPS Rugby season is played during Term 3.
Rugby is played in age groups and Churchie fields over 35 teams. All levels of skill and physical ability are catered for, with teams in each age group ranging from A to E levels. Teams train at least twice each week in Term 3 with the A/B squads commencing at the start of Term 2. Players also have the opportunity to participate in specialist skills sessions, training camps and touring activities prior to the GPS Rugby season.
Churchie has a proud history of touring with both prep teams and the First XV. In recent years, the First XV has toured Argentina, France, Japan and the United Kingdom.
Quality dedicated rugby facilities at Churchie are all located on the main campus, only a short walking distance from the boarding house and the main school facilities. The quality facilities are regularly used by touring international teams.
The British and Irish Lions, All Blacks, French and Springboks have all used Churchie as their Brisbane training base.
For any student wishing to develop their rugby and explore their full potential in the sport, Churchie will provide a programme of the highest quality for students of all levels.
Churchie’s rugby programme is also a pathway for representative honours.
We have a proud history of producing representative players at all levels, including Wallabies David Pocock, Quade Cooper, Jake Shatz, and Liam Wright and, more recently, Harry Hockings and Joel Kuchel, who represented the Australian Schoolboys in matches against New Zealand and Samoa.
Between 1939 and 2015 Churchie has won 15 GPS premierships and shared the premiership on two occasions.
The 2015 First XV became the first Churchie team since 1963 to win consecutive premierships.
