Last Thursday, our leading scholars from the class of 2022 returned for our annual Academic Celebration Assembly.

From both the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and IB Diploma Programme pathways, every student had achieved an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) score of 98.00 or higher. These young men competed at the very highest levels of academic distinction in Australia. It was wonderful to acknowledge their success.

As part of our assembly, Dashiell Young received The Dr Paul McCarthy Memorial Bursary, endowed by the McCarthy family in memory of their late son, Old Boy Dr Paul McCarthy, awarded to an outstanding student who will pursue a career in science and medicine. Harry Rae was also awarded the I M Williamson Bursary, endowed for an outstanding student who is seeking to study law.

We commend our Year 12s of 2022 on their outstanding success, their humility and service. Quite apart from their numerous academic achievements, we acknowledge these young men for the way they conducted themselves in a range of other outstanding commitments across the school—on the football field, in the concert hall, as cadets and as leaders.

Four of our graduating students from the class of 2022 achieved the maximum possible ATAR of 99.95, three from the QCE pathway and one from the IB, and 15% of our Year 12 students received an ATAR over 99. Any school would be immensely proud of these top-level results. However, it was the depth of success in 2022 that was perhaps the most compelling story. Almost 60% of students achieved an ATAR over 90, and 86% over 80.

We wish the class of 2022 only the very best for a successful, compassionate and adventurous life beyond Churchie. May they remember us fondly, as of course, we shall remember them.
