Congratulations to recent Churchie Old Boy Hugo Schreuder (2020), who has been accepted to study Management, Entrepreneurship and Technology at Haas Business School at the University of California, Berkeley.

Following his studies, Hugo hopes to start his own business in the app development industry in Silicon Valley.
Hugo was inspired to study at Berkeley during his first visit to America and said Churchie played a pivotal role in making his dream become reality.

‘Churchie formed me into the man I am today through its strong values and ethics,’ he said.

‘Churchie taught me self-discipline, courage and independence, and I am very honoured to have been part of this amazing school.’

Joining the School as a boarder in Gerald House in 2015, Hugo found his feet by taking part in the various co-curricular activities on offer. He was heavily involved in the rugby programme, playing in the B team from Years 7 to 9, in the Under 16a team in Year 10 and the First XV in Years 11 and 12. Hugo also rowed in Years 9 and 10 and was invested in the tennis programme from Years 7 to 9.

Hugo said being part of the boarding community was also an amazing experience.

‘Churchie Boarding assisted me with maintaining the balance between sport and academics and provided me with additional resources and support,’ he said.

We wish Hugo all the best with his studies and look forward to hearing about his future business success. Hugo joins a prestigious group of international scholars, graduates who have confidently taken their place as global citizens and are gaining entry into leading institutions around the world.
