The Churchie Research Centre’s A Learner’s Toolkit (ALT) programme is pleased to invite teachers to offer a workshop at its annual A Matter for Translation conference. A Matter of Translation will occur on the Queensland Schools Student-Free Day on Friday 30 August from 9 am to 3 pm at the Anglican Church Grammar School (East Brisbane). The proceeds from the conference will be directed to the Youth Homeless Accommodation Build – Anglicare Southern Queensland (anglicaresq.org.au).
The A Learner’s Toolkit project works with any teacher, at any school, anywhere. Registrations can be made by using the link here. The A Matter of Translation conference is a low-cost event open to all. As such, the registration fees are as follows;
- Pre-service teachers will be $25
- Teacher early bird registration of $75 (ends on Friday 21 June)
- Teacher full registration of $125 (from 22 June to 28 August)
- Partner School Virtual Access will be free
Keynote presenters
- Dr Tim McDonald (CEO of the YMCA WA and subject matter expert on the Hon. Jason Clare’s Classroom Management Review) – will share the next phase of the Federal Classroom Management curriculum and training.
- Emina McLean (Language and Literacy expert, Lecturer, and Primary Years School Leader) – Getting beyond the hype associated with Australia’s current Science of Reading movement.
- Peps McCrea (Steplab UK) – Teacher motivation and instructional changes.
- Scientia Professor Andrew Martin (UNSW) – Student motivation and self-regulation.
Workshop streams for 2024
- Practises and techniques around classroom management and routines.
- Implementing and evaluating the Science of Learning (SoL)/Science of Reading (SoR) in the classroom.
- Motivation and Self-regulation interventions and programs.
A Matter of Translation allows teachers to share their practice with their colleagues. Please complete the expression of interest form using the link here. The goal is to assist teachers in connecting key advancements in current learning and behaviour research with their daily classroom practices. As a result, we invite teachers to express their interest in presenting a session on either conference theme. The sessions can be from primary or secondary school and cover any subject. The Churchie Research Centre will cover the registration price for the presenters as a token of gratitude for sharing their practice.
Key dates
- Expressions of Interest for workshop presentations close on Friday, June 21st (the final day of Term 2). Please complete the Expression of Interest form using the link here. Speakers will be notified via email of the outcome of their submission.
- The final speaker schedule will be released on Monday, 8th July (the first day of Term 3).
- As workshops and speakers are confirmed, we will advertise to the broader community.
- Conference Registrations will open on Wednesday, 23rd April. Registrations can be made by using the link here.
