Music

Welcome back! Rehearsals are now underway with our new ensembles. You should receive a notification email from your conductors with the location and time. Our premier ensembles will be involved in significant events, including Speech Night and the Tri-Service Cadet Parade in week 2, before the Year 12s depart for their final exams. This term is a great opportunity to focus and prepare the music for the year ahead. Your conductors have done an excellent job preparing the repertoire so you can enjoy the sounds and meaningful connections to the music. Best wishes for a wonderful Term 4!

Assembly performance

In the celebratory spirit of the final week of term, Caspar West (Year 11) led a band comprised of Year 11 and Year 12 students, with Clancy Wardle (Year 12), Matt Lee (Year 11) and Zac Patane (Year 11) performing Alive by Pearl Jam. The song has become an anthem of perseverance and survival, a fitting way to close out one of the larger terms of the school year.

Eric Kim – Tyalgum Chamber Music Festival

After their success at ‘Strike A Chord’, the national chamber music competition, The Incredibows (featuring Music Captain Eric Kim) received a prestigious invitation to participate in the Tyalgum Chamber Music Festival, held in the school holidays from 26 to 28 Sep 2025. The audiences in these rural communities are particularly supportive and it was no surprise that The Incredibows were a hit as they again showed their virtuosity and poise, performing repertoire well beyond their years.

Music Camp – 24 to 26 October 2025, QCCC Brookfield

With only three weeks before the annual Music Camp at Brookfield, we are pleased to announce the guest conductor for Senior Voices for 2025.

Joshua Clifford is a conductor, singing teacher, performer and lyricist based in Meanjin/Brisbane. He holds a Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) in classical voice from the University of Queensland and a Master of Music Studies (with Distinction) in vocal pedagogy from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, where he received an award for academic excellence.

Passionate about community music-making, Joshua is the director of the Hillbrook Chorale, who present their own concert series each year and collaborate with a range of local performers and ensembles. For several years, he worked with Voices of Birralee as a senior musical assistant and has toured as a chorister to Canada, Austria, France, Croatia, Italy and Slovenia.

Joshua regularly adjudicates vocal and choral competitions for both schools and community organisations. His work with the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA) includes serving as the Immediate Past President of the QLD/NT Chapter and as editor for ANCA’s national choral magazine Sing Out.
