Standing ovation for Eric Kim
Year 12 student and 2025 Captain of Music Eric Kim lit up Headmaster’s Assembly with a virtuoso live looping violin cover of Viva La Vida by Coldplay, layering lines in real time with touches of beatboxing to build harmony, counter-melody and rhythmic excellence.
Arranged across four lunchtime breaks and premiered at Headmaster’s Assembly, the solo performance drew a standing ovation from the entire school.
Eric studies with Queensland Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Natsuko Yoshimoto and was the 2024 QSO Young Instrumentalist Prize winner.
